We Shall Not Be Moved

"In the name of God, the merciful, the compassionate, may peace be upon the cheerful one; and the dauntless fighter, Prophet Muhammad, God’s peace be upon him. O nation of Islam and nation of Arabism: rejoice for it is time to take revenge from the British Zionist Crusader Government in retaliation for the massacres Britain is committing in Iraq and Afghanistan. The heroic mujahidin have carried out a blessed raid in London. Britain is now burning with fear, terror, and panic in its northern, southern, eastern, and western quarters. We have repeatedly warned the British Government and people. We have fulfilled our promise and carried out our blessed military raid in Britain after our mujahidin exerted strenuous efforts over a long period of time to ensure the success of the raid. We continue to warn the governments of Denmark and Italy and all the Crusader governments that they will be punished in the same way if they do not withdraw their troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. He who warns is excused."

Can Bush not pronounce "perpetrators"? How about "We will find [those evil folks]"?

I'm looking forward to my first post-bomb tube ride tomorrow, passing through Edgware Road in fact. I expect it be charmingly uneventful.

Oops! I switched out the Bush quote for fear of sounding like a stuck record, and now your comment doesn't make sense. When I updated the South Park post it brought comments from the old article with it, too... I should stop tinkering with my posts after I've published them.

Anyway, Bush was all "we'll find them and bring them to justice" while the rest of the world preached compassion and strength for Britons to go on with their daily lives. So much hate in just one man.

Too bad that Spain didn't have the same resolve.

Are you talking about their election result? Cos I think Zapatero was in line to beat Aznar anyway. The Spanish people were dead set against going to war so Aznar's days were numbered.

Not to disregard the horrible act, but do you will Tony Blair benefit politically from the terrorist act like Bush did in the post-9/11 months? I know winning the 2012 Olympics certainly won't hurt him...

But if he does benefit, then he may find more reason to stay in the Iraq quagmire (though in a lesser role and with lesser forces than Bush has).

I don't know if Bush possesses as much hate as he possesses stubborn resolve. I'd treat that quote in same context as Rove's false recollection of the Democrats' reaction to 9/11 -- politically calculated statements to energize the base and disrupt the opposing party.

Jono: that remains to be seen, though anyone thinking the govt. brought this on via their support of the Iraq invasion would not see Blair as impartial in that. Bush had the ignorance of the people (regarding events leading up to 9/11) on his side; Blair can't say the same about 7/7.
