Top Five Films

1. Memento: Christopher Nolan (2000).
"Memory can change the shape of a room; it can change the color of a car. Memories can be distorted. They're just an interpretation, they're not a record. And they're irrelevant if you have the facts."
2. Donnie Darko: Richard Kelly (2002).
"What kind of name is that? It's like some sort of superhero or something."
"What makes you think I'm not?"

3. Adaptation: Spike Jonze (2002).
"One morning, I woke up and said, 'Fuck fish. I renounce fish! I will never set foot in that ocean again.' And there hasn't been a time since where I've stuck so much as a toe back in that ocean."
"Why?"
"Done with fish."
4. Touch Of Evil: Orson Welles (1958/1998).
"A policeman's job is only easy in a police state."
5. Monsters Inc.: Pete Docter (2001).
"Hey! Those were alphabetized!"

All five are narrative in style and American in origin. Surprised?

Memento is my #4 movie, behind Back to the Future, The Sixth Sense, and The Princess Bride.

I did enjoy Adaptation very much, but I much preferred Being John Malkovich and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

One of these days, I'm going to have to see Donnie Darko and find out what everyone is recommending so highly.

Eve: you know it.

Dr: choose between the regular and director's cut of Donnie Darko. I haven't seen the dir. cut but it's supposed to be a LOT clearer, explaining the weirder goings-on. I guess it depends whether you're OK with things being mysterious or if that frustrates you.

Back To The Future IS awesome BTW. "Density has brought us together..."
