Top Five Dumb Things To Say During The World Cup

5. "Is there a game on tonight?"
4. "The coverage is better on the B.B.C."
3. "Are they being a bit liberal with the yellow cards this year?"
2. "No African team has won a game yet. Except Brazil."
1. "Are Joe and Ashley Cole related?"

I can take credit for 2. I'm not proud.

Number 3 is an understatement. They are also handing out red cards like they're going out of style.

You forgot a couple, like:

"Who are Joe & Ashley Cole?"
"What's a yellow card?"
"Is there something else on TV?"

I'm all for football/soccer, but it hasn't quite infiltrated my culture yet, so I'm clueless. I do, however, know where I might find Brazil on a map :)

No. 4 isn't dumb, it's spot on. I never thought ITV's coverage could get any worse, but they've managed it, chiefly by having intensely annoying Budweiser sponsorship, and by being stupidly jingoistic.
The only good bit is since Gaby Logan (the only talented presented they have) has been relegated to second spot by Steve "is it a syrup?" Rider, she's taken to wearing far far too much black eyeliner and generally carrying on like a teenage Cure fan. Which can only be a good thing.

Number 4 is totally true, bearing in mind some of the prattle I see round here.
Number 3 - I was hoping that we'd get down to the Dutch and Portuguese goalkeepers slugging it out. While the Russian ref was a bit of a prat, the last sending off was a totally gratuitous foul - how much did Sven pay for that?
Number 2 - you're a prat.

I'd probably be guilty of saying something like number 1. I also couldn't even blame it on the chest infection either.

The best thing about the World Cup is that they feel the need to put on great movies after the games have finished so I get to record films that i haven't seen for ages. Sadly, however, I don't think this is going to continue afterwards - shame :(

My favourite thing about the World Cup so far is the Brazilian player who's called Fred. Not Zico, not Socrates, not Tostao, but Fred. Genius.

Doesn't beat the commentators some matches have.

The best so far: "Well, if they're going to lose 3-nil, well they might as well win then".

Still trying to figure that one out.

I'm with Kitkat.

How about "Do you mind if I change the channel?"

or

"Who wants to watch Czech porn?" }:-)
